Some Movies Pts. 8 of Many (Jason Statham Edition)

Crank

Starring Jason Statham
Directed By (Two Guys Without Any Prior Experience)

What a rush! When the preview says the movie is a non-stop action packed adrenaline rush, they are not kidding. Jason Statham is a assassin who has been poisoned by enemies and allies for letting one of his target go alive. And this poison is no ordinary poison of course. In the movie it is called a "Chinese Cocktail", which means that it has blocked receptors in his adrenal gland, and if his adrenaline stops pumping, he is going to die. So by the plot you know it is going to be an outrageous action movie. It follows Statham's character as he goes about finding who did this to him, and killing them while setting things straight with his girlfriend (Amy Smart) before he dies. While the plot is out there, the action is not, well choreographed gun fight mixed with chase scenes of every kind mixed with tense stand off moments give this movies a unique blend of action. Another thing that I noticed is the strange camera angles that I noticed, that I've never seen in any other movie, so some original creativity going on here. And all the while only costing a measly 12 million dollars, which, by Hollywood's' standards, is not hat much at all (i.e., The Transporter, cost around 27 million dollars to make) To top that all off, instead of bombing like most people think it would, it made 30 million dollars at the box office, almost tripling the money spent, very nice indeed.

Some Thoughts

Don't be extracted by activities that don't agree with you,
Do what you want to do,
Drop everything else that is bothersome and pointless,
Focus on what your soul feeds on.

Chaos

Starring Jason Statham
Directed By Tony Giglio (No background worth mentioning)

This movie pits Jason Statham and Ryan Phillippe against a vengeful Wesley Snipes while using the theme of chaos. Statham is a cop that was kicked off the force for an incident with a hostage situation where he accidentally killed the hostage. Now he is called back on to the force to deal with a bank robbery situation. After lots of plot, which I really don't want to explain right at the moment, Philippe suddenly finds that Statham is behind the whole thing, and he is a very tricky bastard. He gets away, and with 1 million dollars in police money, BAM. Good movie, not great, not crappy, but a good use of my rental money, even though I didn't rent it. If you like Jason Statham, then definitely get this one, because it is a good "twist at the end movie".

Oh Treasure Where Did You Go?

So what to say about the movie they call Treasure Planet. I'll tell you one thing, Michael Spooner is a fantastic artist, and I love that he is also a believer, it makes his work so much more realistic to me. Other than the fact that I'm not a animator and I can't draw worth crap, the exhibit was a bit interesting, more so than I thought it was going to be. To be honest, I just went to get blog points, I didn't really care one bit about Spooner or his artwork. But, oh, what can I say, I'm a live action man, I appreciate animated movies, actually, love em', and I love art, but art for animated movies that completely bombed at the box office, its hard for me to gain any interest for them.

Something Here

Don't be afraid of death,
It is only a part of life,
Live authentically for all your years,
Pursue purity and justice in your soul.

And Back To What I Like To Call Movies

Bond. James Bond. That’s all I'm gonna say about that. And that's all you have to say, because Daniel Craig (and he is not gay, by the way) is by far the best bond I have ever seen (excluding Connery, because he is the classic bond, but Craig definitely gives him a run for his money). That said, bum 8 bucks off of someone you know or spend 8 bucks of your own to see this movie, because it is going to be one of my favorite movies of this year, and my favorite bond movie of all time. Casino Royale, greatest intro sequence and theme song too. Chris Cornell is all you need to know.

Seven Shades of Shit

"If he's done that to me I'd have beat the seven shades of shit out of him!" This quote pretty much explains what Green Street Hooligans is all about. And what is it about… Elijah Wood is a Harvard student that is expelled for possession of drugs that aren't his, and so he leaves and goes off to London where he is introduced to the violent world of football gangs. Great movie, if you don't mind the language, which no one reading this should, and if you do, get out of DMA. In depth story of the life that revolves around the soccer teams in England and how they effects peoples lives. Thank you and good night.

Music videos and Animations

While talking about how amazing and cool the videos that we watch in DMA has gotten to be redundant and a suicide committing bore. But everyone has to get enough blogs to get a good grade, unless Leeper goes soft and gives leniency to those people who are stupid enough to not write enough blogs. Anywho, well, most of the animations sucked, but other than that, good job.

Bash

The video about the 3 kids growing up in different neighborhoods;

What didn't you understand about no talking in the PSA.
You could have made the theme more clear, I had no idea what was going on.
The Puppets, come on.

The video about the Half Life 2 addict;

Yeah, I play Halo, and now I'm going to go kill some people with my assault rifle.
That’s all a bunch of bullcrap, not worse than the Swedish fish though.

Swedish Fish don't care that they are eaten, they are sugary;

Random violence at the end, it’s a PSA people.
Why were the candies talking, were they happy they were going to get eaten.
Save the Swedish fish, I didn't think they were unpopular, oh wait, they aren't.
And I'm sure that if someone saw this, it would turn their life around. yeah.

The Sun loves the Earth, its not the battle of the planets here;

Sadly, there isn't a lot to criticize about this movie.
Except for the crappy jumpy animation.

Life of a Penny, too bad they aren't alive;

Sounds = Bad.
It did remind me of how unpopular pennies are.
Unrendered?

Squirrels in the bird bath of suck;

I'm sure squirrels love bird baths, but you sure milked that scene.
Good thing that the black was bigger than the mean squirrels.
So, don't be a racist and we won't kill you, that makes sense.
Music = corny and uninspiring.

The Invader Zim Noir Airport Animation;

Baby = no sound.
Music needs to be timed with the fat guards entrance.
I'm glad I could see the outline of the background.
Good use of photoshop at the beginning.
And do not, at all costs, take that gunshot out.

Cell Phone thingy;

Are churches actually like that.
Good use of sound effects.
Could've been better with all of the time you spent on it.
I say, always keep your phone on vibrate…in case of emergencies.

Ninjas verses the crappy Disney and cartoon characters;

What the crap?
Anyone could beat the crap out of Captain Planet and Jack Sparrow.
Change the ending text to, some people deserve to die.
Cool jumping scene.

The fat guy that couldn't fit into the doorway;

Props on the sounds.
Bonus footage for a PSA?
What does it mean?
More background noise.
What were those people?

Overall…pretty good.

Pfffirate

My second favorite short out of the ones we saw on Thursday, cute on to the point. It was a great idea, blowup vinyl everything, except for a sharp metal parrot, who is a douchebag. The mice were awesome, just scurrying around and fro some reason going to chew on the nipple of the lady on the front of the ship. The captain runs around on his ship trying to eliminate all dangers to his ship. How did the mice get on the ship in the first place? Did they come with the ship when he blew it up to get off the island? And how did he get a hold of the ship in the first place? These are questions that need to be answered, anyways… The parrot was a jerk, he knows he is sharp, and yet he still wants to land on the ship, why couldn’t he just go a little farther and land on the island? Because now that he has destroyed the ship, he’s really screwed now.

Work in Progress

I liked this one the best out of all the CG films we watched. I can see how Leeper might be creeped out by the “uncanny valley,” but I don’t have a problem with it, he’s just paranoid. I loved both Shrek movies and they didn’t make me feel all strange inside. The CG style didn’t make me have a heart attack or anything, because I know it is very good. The very concept of these two guys making animals…creatures, just experimenting, and then the girl coming in and breathing life into them is incredible. The animation was really breathtaking, it was an insight into another world, where humans (well, what I took to be humans) create, and are magical and supernatural beings, something of gods. Props to ILM for creating such a beautiful short.

Bunny

Like the majority of the CG films we watched, I found myself very confused at the end of this film. So the bunny gets annoyed at his mother moth…right, it keeps shutting it out because it is getting on the nerves of the bunny. At last the moth pulls the last straw and the bunny goes terminator on it; taking out a wooden spoon and smacks that moth right into the food he is making. He is so pissed that he doesn’t care, he stirs the mother right into the bowl and throws it into the oven and then sits back, out of breath. Suddenly a bright light comes out of the oven, and…long story short, the bunny crawls into the oven, literally burning himself alive, not a very good idea. But killing himself takes him toward the light with the moth, and then a bunch of moths. I didn’t understand it until a firend told me that the moth represented death and that it was beckoning the bunny to die and join his wife in heaven.

What makes a movie good?

(I am not responsible for any contradictions in the following text, and don't hate if I go off the subject, because I will)

This has been a question that has plagued me for the past 5 weeks. I am searching for the true meaning of the film and why it exists. Is it here to instruct us on how to live, showing us the meaning of our lives, and giving morals that we should follow. Did movies start out just as mindless pieces of entertainment or a iffy invention that didn't really work out. It was the latter, just so you know, and then it went from invention to entertainment. But of course the silent movies were so innocent compared to the movies that are released in these modern times. So should I go back to the roots and watch the pure movies that were created at the beginning of the movie industry. Of course not, those movies were absolutely horrid compared to the movies of these modern times.

So I find myself in a bind that will be a bit difficult to get out of, how do I sift through the "good" movies and the "bad" movies on the terms of the Leeper, or why should I. I don't because all that is a bunch of bullcrap, if I make a movie that is just pure violence with no meaning at all, I will love it and it will be entertaining, and I have no problem with it. Example, today I watched Reservoir Dogs, which has no moral values, or any other values when I think about it. So is this movie good, or even great, of course it is, I thought it was really good, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. So a movie doesn't have to have values to be a good movie, and movies that have values in them are often much worse than movies without them. This probably doesn’t make any sense, so I'll sum it up in a couple of coherent sentences.

First, a movie doesn't have to have values to be a good movie. Second, nothing is wrong with an entertaining movie, I love to go and see entertaining movies all the time, that have no underlying themes in them. Third, going to the theatre to just relax and fly off into a dream world is the reason most people go to see a movie. Fourth, although not all movies that make money are good movies, all movies that are blockbuster movies; that is, making lots of money at the box office; that is, more than 80 million dollars, are top notch great movies. and Fifth…how to say my fifth point…not really much of a point per say, but…I love movies that are just straight action all the way through, with just enough plot to make it a little bit believable, those movies are great.

Thank You.

Just Some Movies Pts. 7 of Many (Halloween Version)

Saw III – Rated R – Grossed upwards of 36 million opening weekend, which is 16 million more than it cost to make. It is in the horror genre, but is unlike most hack and slash horror movies and gore fests that have come out these days. It’s all about tricks and teases in these movies, with awful torture devices, people coming to terms with their past, and see how far they will go to save themselves from eternal sleep. The director and screen writer really aren’t that important when it comes to a thriller/horror movie. Went to see it, was actually good, but since the Saw movies are known for there crazy twists in the end that blow your mind I was disappointed with the twist in this movie. It was just too easy, everything played out way to smooth and it didn’t compare at all to Saw II, when I was

Upcoming Horror Films

8 Films to Die For - November 17th (One Weekend Only)
A release of 8 films on one weekend only, The After Dark Horror Fest, never before seen horror films to disturbing to show in theatres, so they are going to release them in theatres. The advertising states that the movies were too awful to show in theatres, but apparently if they release them all together then it’s all right. I don’t really care at all it’s just a problem with their marketing firm. I’m going to go see them anyway, they’re only showing in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, so I’m in luck, yippee.

Hostel 2 - Early Next Spring

Another creation by horror master Eli Roth (Creator of Hostel and Cabin Fever, two more than disgusting movies) that will be released next year. Hostel was a fairly good movie…compared to his other one, Cabin Fever, they are both your standard horror flicks with more gore and more of a story that surprised people. Hostel was more like, part orgy the first half and then pure nightmare the second half, it switches perfectly between the two and is gratifying in the end when there is the revenge sequence, pretty spectacular, I was actually expecting now one to survive the blood fest but the movie proved me wrong. And I guess they decided to make another one, in which the teaser states that Americans are sissy’s because they use guns.
